How to choose the right tool for the right job !!
It doesn't matter how many tools we own, but when comes time to tackle a project, we always seem to be missing that ONE tool to do it !!
There's no real rule when comes time to purchase tools, but personally when I go to my favorite hardware store to buy a power tool I want to pay for a brand name and I'm looking for the toughest tool I can get !! Yeah sure a lot of companies now make lighter tools and faster drills, again it's all about wear and tear !! Dewalt, Bosch, Milwaukee, Makita, Hitachi, Ridgid, Panasonic, Hilti and all the others what really differentiate them from one another !?? First price, durability, then comes battery life, weight and size !!
I could actually go for hours about the pros and cons of this particular brand name, but all that is very important to remember is that !!
1. Identify the real use you will make out of your tool !!
2. Cordless tools have come a long way since they first started, but there are a lot of tools even if you do construction for a living that are better to be corded !!
Example : Reciprocating saw, Circular saw, Hammer Drill, .....
3. Cordless tools, drills especially used to have accessible external brushes, now pretty much all the companies came up with sealed 4 poles motors !! It make the tools more compact, but without brushes that you can replace, it means that when your motor overheat and the poles wearing out you are better off buying a whole new drill, because it will cost you just as much to replace your motor !! Replacing your brushes back a couple years ago meant that when your drill was getting sluggish you would get the torque back, now it means a consumable item !! Drills with higher RPM than 1600 or 1800 are not really a good option since there's a lot of wear and tear involved the higher speed would most likely mean a faster end to your beloved tools !!
4. Lighter tools are rarely better !! Cutting the weight would usually mean to replace steel parts and gear with plastic, nylon of aluminum !! So when the planetary gear slips once on your drill it usually mean it will only get from bad to worse !!
5. Always check the torque of your cordless drill of the amount of amps of any electrical tool before you purchase it !! Also check the rubber quality and the length of the power cord that comes with your tool !! A lot of companies would cheap out on the gauge and the quality of their extension cords, that would be a really good indicator of witch brand to stay away from since a poor rubber quality can be getting really unflexible in colder temperatures !!
