Bumpy Start to a Perfect Day !!!

I know I'm probably fall offtrack today sharing this with you guy's, but I just had to get it off my chest !! Today my simple Architectural post install, finishing and painting turned started in a little bit of a nightmare !!  Instead of driving my Sierra to work today, I had to drive my pregnant wife to work and get her car, a 2010 Hyundai Tucson to the dealership where she bought it !! After going back 3 times with a 52 000 km car about squealing noise in the rear brakes and sway bar knocking together you would think that they would have figured it out by now !! They replaced brake parts and shock mounts on our the last visits, but nothing as changed and the noises are still there driving us crazy !! Let's say that it doesn't look too promising for the future !! Of course we where told that it had nothing to do with the vehicle, and that theses noises were also coming out of Toyota's and Honda's, that there vehicles where in fact just as go as any of th

Keep Your Glass Shower Looking New Longer !!

If you are the lucky owner of a glass shower like me, you should know that to keep your shower looking great and to prevent any leak from happening in the future, it's highly recommended that you repair and seal all your grout joints at least every 2 years !! Theses types of showers are definitely bringing another look to any bathroom, therefore they have to be maintained frequently, otherwise they will fall apart and they may even start leaking into your walls and ceilings !! There are some things that I've even learned at my own expenses and that is why I am sharing this post so it doesn't happen to anybody else !! 1. If you have marble trims and even tiles, please don't use any of theses Kaboom and CLR for bathroom  to clean up the soap scum from your walls !! I used it in my shower once to get rid of the soap buildup easily, but it says clearly on the container not to use on porous surfaces like marble !! My tempered glass also started to loosen up because the

A Cut Above !!

If you take a lot of pride in what you do and you don't like a finish product that look sloppy you definitely need try the Freud and Diablo blades and router bit lineup !!   You don't need to be a professional to enjoy great products that are reasonably priced !! As a carpenter I had to cut and drill through many materials like wood, metal, plastic, aluminium, concrete and even had to cut through nails and screws along the way !! Well it might surprise you, but Freud have a blade and drill bit  for any of theses material !! Obviously their main focus is anything that cut, but they also make a variety of heavy duty tools like routers, mixer drills, jigsaw and they even make sandpaper !! I can honestly tell you that there are no other blade that would even come close to compete with Freud !!  I've discovered theses blades for more that 7 years now and I haven't looked back since !! Since they started to be very popular, a lot of companies like Dewalt, Ridgid and

Best Power Tool I've ever owned !!

Image
I've been working as a carpenter for about ten years now and I've definitely got to try a lot of power tools of any make !!  I can honestly say that there is no real leader in the power tools world among the big players like Makita, Dewalt, Milwaukee and Bosch !! The only thing that I would say differentiate one another is what they do best !!  You really have to know what you are looking for when you go to buy power tools, otherwise you are gonna get confused !! For my part I knew, when I bought my reciprocating saw 3 years ago, that the brand name for that type of power tool was Milwaukee !! With their famous Sawzall they had been on top for many years !! I was starting to have some doubts about Milwaukee quality they had been bought by a Chinese company called One World Technologies , their precious reciprocating saw was now made in China and I also witnessed the indestructible Sawzall falling on duty into the hands of some of my  coworkers !!  That's when I deci

How to choose the right tool for the right job !!

It doesn't matter how many tools we own, but when comes time to tackle a project, we always seem to be missing that ONE tool to do it !! There's no real rule when comes time to purchase tools, but personally when I go to my favorite hardware store to buy a power tool I want to pay for a brand name and I'm looking for the toughest tool I can get !! Yeah sure a lot of companies now make lighter tools and faster drills, again it's all about wear and tear !! Dewalt, Bosch, Milwaukee, Makita, Hitachi, Ridgid, Panasonic, Hilti and all the others what really differentiate them from one another !?? First price, durability, then comes battery life, weight and size !! I could actually go for hours about the pros and cons of this particular brand name, but all that is very important to remember is that !! 1. Identify the real use you will make out of your tool !! 2. Cordless tools have come a long way since they first started, but there are a lot of tools even if you d

Save some energy this winter !!

Here are some things to remember when your are trying to make your house more energy efficient !! 1. Start from the outside of your house when you want to fix an air leak or a draft !!  (Same way as you would treat a water leak) 2. If you have a house that was built less than 15 years ago by a builder chances are that you have cheap air exhaust grill on the outside of your house, make sure that they are not missing the anti-draft flapper or any fins, because in that case they would  need to be replaced !! 3. Make sure that the silicone is properly done all around your windows and doors, if it isn't it could lead to humid air and water coming through your walls and creating mold and rot !! Also make sure that the thermos glass and weather stripping are still in good condition on your windows and doors !! Bad thermos glass would show a lot of condensation inside your glass !! 4. You should make sure that the sleeves for your exhaust fans in the attic are well ins
