Multi-Tool Growing in Popularity !!

Like many other tools before, this not so new tool already seems to be here to stay !! The multiple possibilities it offers make it convenient, efficient and irreplaceable !!

Even though his popularity has exploded in the last few years, the first version of this multi-tasker was invented in 1967 by Fein tools, a world renown company !! At first, the precision of the oscillating action, made this tool very safe for cutting cast off of patient body parts !! Later on they figures many other uses, like sanding, rasping, caulking removal, ... !!

Now a lot of other companies have built their own version of the Fein multi-tool, therefore all the brands out there are not built as tough or as versatile !! That's why I've decided to show you some of the brands that I think are totally worth the money you would spend for them !!

The primary thing that you should look for is the use you are gonna make out of this tool !! I know that some companies like Ridgid, Milwaukee, Bosch, Ryobi and Craftsman all came up with their own cordless version. Honestly unless you are a serious DIY or a contractor that absolutely wan't the convenience of the cordless then I suggest that you go for the serious brands like Bosch or Milwaukee other than that I wouldn't bother !! Fein also recently came out with a heavy duty cordless multi-tool, but I think looks just a bit bulky !!

Corded is still the most durable choice of tools no matter what you buy !! In the corded category you can by a Fein multimaster, this is definitely the tougher oscillating tool you will ever buy, of course if you don't mind to pay a bit more and the little extra weight !! It comes with a powerful motor, a very long and high quality power cord, and the higher end model offers a tool less blade change !! I've owned a Dremel multi-max and had it for a little over a year, it took a lot of abuses, but after a while the speed regulation wheel was peaking and going back down and the cord started to fall apart !! It was also only a 1.5 amps tool, which was pretty weak for cutting through harder materials or sanding, but now they are making the new Dremel with a 2.5 amps motor like his corded counter part the Bosh Multi-X !! If you are a little less in need of a work horse for your multi-tool and that you would rather a lighter and cheaper alternative to the Fein Multimaster I would say that your second best choice would be the Bosch Multi-X and after that I would suggest the Dremel !! The only reason why is that Dremel is a little bit like Black & Decker is to DeWalt and Bosch even though it could be a little less ergonomic, will always be built for the professional in mind !!

Again if you are not gonna use this tool for all the possible uses it offers and it's only to help you to cut your door jambs when you finish the hardwood or laminate in your own house, you might not need to spend a fortune !! But if you are  like me and you like to buy tools to get many years of hard work out of them, maybe it's a good idea to go with Fein the company who originally came up with that tool more than 40 years ago and that always improve their products to make them better !! If you think about it after all all theses years they've had to perfect their own creation, they couldn't have left many details out on the drawing board !!

Hope that this will help you when you go out and by your next multi-tool !! For more information on the origins the multi-tool please check this link !!
